SUMMARY:Jeep Cave\, Withlacoochee State Forest field trip
DESCRIPTION:Chapter: Citrus\n\n**Jeep Cave\, Withlacoochee State Forest fie
ld trip.** Join us for a guided visit to the Jeep Cave area of the Withla
coochee State Forest with Steve Farnsworth. As always\, Steve will educate
us with his identification of the flora we encounter. Jeep Cave is in a d
epressional area of the forest with limestone outcroppings and shallow\, s
mall caves and rock shelters. There are unusual plants and ferns in this a
rea\, and we will be crossing through sandhill habitat to get there. The g
roup will meet at the trailhead opposite\, and a bit north of Noble Street
on Lecanto Highway (28.791696119200758\, -82.45073114355449). See the pro
vided map. The trailhead parking has ruts and is sandy\, so enter and exit
the parking area with caution. Notice -- the trip is a bit longer than no
rmal at four miles round-trip\, and returning when it may be getting hot.
Water\, a snack\, and insect repellent (deer flies and ticks) are highly r
ecommended. We will travel on trails the whole way\, so long pants are not
required but suggested\, and sturdy shoes are a must. Please RSVP with Be
n Berauer at bfberauer@aol.com\, or call or text 727-217-5971.\n\n
